I got the Netfirms.com for 10 dollars deal ( from netfirms.com/max which is going until the 31st of December) which is going for 10 dollars a year for the Advantage Plan (750GB transfer/20GB storage,RAID-5 Fibre Chanel, 2 free domain names). Also you can use all the space and bandwith you want , unlike some companies which claim that you can and then subsequently cancel your account. There is no CPU limit with Netfirms.com and in theroy their clustered servers should mean 100% uptime . However I have found that actual uptime is around 99.98% for my websites and that sometimes the MYSQL clusters can lag my website (causing 5 second load times for users of my forum site on a broadband connection). This happens periodically at about 1 hour total per week and is quite rare. The customer support is quite slow when it comes to email. Although it claims that 95% of claims are resolved in 24 hours email support can take as long as 3 days. However this is not a real issue because phone support comes free with Netfirms and can be used for more urgent matters. They have very high quality technical support over the phone for Advantage Plan Users. This tech support will not help you however with software installations that are not provided automatically by Netfirms.
Bandwith usage for my sites tend to max out at 170KB/s (1360kb/s) per user per download during high load time (9:00-4:00 PST). This is to say that with multiple downloads even at high load time, a user can max out their internet connection. My users download Vmware images from www.lemainframe.com and therefore speed is key to the viability of my website. At low load times users can get around 7000kb/s -10,000kb/s per download. They do not offer anonymous FTP and limit the number of FTP account to 10 however. Also they have very few automatically installable scripts . You should not go to Netfirms if you do not know how to install your own code onto the server. Their control panel is annoying at times and is nonstandard. They do not allow automatic unzip within the account and you are forced to send all files in unzipped format during an install. This means that certain file transfers for installation (such as Moodle LMS) take a minimum of 1.5 hours to upload (not solely due to the speed of your internet but due to the way Netfirms FTP works...) Overall a good host if you don't mind installing your own software.
